Spar supermarkets in Switzerland are preparing to roll out Bitcoin payments nationwide. This follows a successful pilot program backed by DFX Swiss. The move aims to integrate crypto into everyday transactions.
Earlier this month, Spar's Zug location began accepting Bitcoin via the Lightning Network using DFX Swiss's OpenCryptoPay platform, according to news reports this month. A second Spar store in Kreuzlingen followed shortly after. OpenCryptoPay confirmed on X that the rollout would soon expand throughout Switzerland.
The expansion makes Spar one of the first major supermarket chains in Switzerland to integrate direct Bitcoin payments. Over 600 businesses in Switzerland now accept Bitcoin, according to BTC Map data.
