xAI Signs EU AI Code of Practice Chapter on Safety and Security

Edited by: Olga Sukhina

Elon Musk's xAI has announced its intention to sign the Safety and Security chapter of the European Union's AI Code of Practice. This voluntary code, developed by 13 independent experts, aims to assist companies in aligning with the EU's AI regulations, focusing on transparency, copyright, and safety.

xAI expressed support for AI safety but criticized certain aspects of the AI Act and Code, stating that some requirements could hinder innovation and overreach on copyright issues. The company has not clarified its stance on signing the other chapters of the code.

Other tech giants, including Google and Microsoft, have indicated plans to sign the code, while Meta has declined, citing legal uncertainties and overreach beyond the AI Act's scope.
