OpenAI has disabled a feature in ChatGPT that allowed users to make their conversations discoverable by search engines. This decision follows reports that private chats, some containing personal or sensitive information, were appearing in search results.

The feature, introduced as an experiment, permitted users to share ChatGPT conversations via a link and opt to make them visible to search engines. However, concerns arose when users discovered that their private discussions were accessible through search queries, leading to unintended exposure of personal details.

In response, OpenAI removed the feature, stating it "introduced too many opportunities for folks to accidentally share things they didn’t intend to." The company is also working to remove indexed content from search engines.
