Sotheby's to Host Inaugural Luxury Auctions in Abu Dhabi

Edited by: alya myart

Sotheby's is set to launch its first-ever auction series in Abu Dhabi from December 2nd to 5th, 2025. This significant event, held in partnership with the Abu Dhabi Investment Office (ADIO), will take place at The St. Regis Saadiyat Island Resort.

The meticulously curated week aims to bolster Abu Dhabi's strategic objective of becoming a premier global center for art, culture, and high-value commerce. The series will feature a diverse array of luxury items, including exquisite jewelry, rare timepieces, and collectible automobiles. An exhibition of contemporary art will also complement the auctions, highlighting the emirate's growing cultural influence.

Among the highly anticipated highlights are the 2017 Pagani Zonda 760 Riviera, with an estimated value of up to $10.5 million, and a 2010 Aston Martin One-77, valued between $1.3 and $1.6 million. A collection of diamonds, estimated to exceed $20 million, will also be showcased, notably featuring "The Desert Rose," recognized as the largest fancy vivid orangy pink diamond ever graded by gemological authorities.

This initiative aligns with Abu Dhabi's key cultural and economic events, such as the Formula 1 Grand Prix and Abu Dhabi Finance Week, aiming to attract international interest. The region has seen a substantial increase in luxury market engagement, with a 25% growth in activity from United Arab Emirates buyers over the past five years. Sotheby's expansion into Abu Dhabi is supported by ADQ, which acquired a significant stake in the auction house in October 2024, reinforcing Abu Dhabi's vision to cultivate a dynamic luxury and art ecosystem.

The emirate's commitment to this vision is further evidenced by its substantial investments in cultural infrastructure, including the Louvre Abu Dhabi and the forthcoming Guggenheim Abu Dhabi. Additionally, the UAE's favorable tax policies, including 0% personal income and capital gains tax on art, enhance its appeal to international collectors and investors. The Abu Dhabi Collectors' Week is expected to elevate the emirate's profile as a global hub for art, luxury, and investment, drawing a diverse international audience.
