Singapore Launches National Mental Health Helpline and Textline

Singapore has launched a new national mental health helpline and textline, providing accessible support for individuals facing mental health challenges.

The service, called national mindline 1771, offers anonymous support through phone, text, and webchat.

This multi-channel approach aims to make it easier for people to seek help.

Trained counselors will provide free support, answer queries, and direct individuals to appropriate services.

The initiative addresses rising mental health concerns, particularly among young people.

Senior Minister of State for Health and Manpower Koh Poh Koon emphasized the helpline's role as a "first stop" for those seeking help.

The helpline will guide individuals to the appropriate level of care, including referrals to General Practitioners, community partners, and social service agencies.

In emergencies, counselors can transfer calls to the Institute of Mental Health or the Singapore Police Force.

The goal is to simplify the process and ensure timely access to mental health support.
