Santorini Assured Safe for Travelers: Greek Tourism Minister Addresses Seismic Concerns and Highlights Sustainable Tourism Efforts

12:29, 23 March

Edited by: Елена 11

Greek Tourism Minister Olga Kefalogianni has reassured travelers that Santorini remains a safe and welcoming destination, despite recent seismic activity. Speaking on BBC Radio 4 and CNN, Kefalogianni emphasized that the island and its neighbors are operating normally and ready for the tourist season. She acknowledged concerns following the seismic activity in late January but stated that conditions have stabilized, and authorities acted swiftly to ensure safety. Scientists have given the "green light," and life on the island has returned to normal. Kefalogianni also highlighted Greece's commitment to sustainable tourism, including traffic management measures and extending the tourist season, which have already yielded record visitor numbers in October and November 2024. Furthermore, she reiterated Greece's ongoing efforts for the reunification of the Parthenon Sculptures, emphasizing it as a reunification of global cultural heritage. The minister's visit to London aimed to further elevate Greece's international profile as a destination of cultural authenticity and historical significance.
