Francophonie and Central African Republic Strengthen Economic Ties in 2025

Edited by: Dmitry Drozd

In 2025, La Francophonie and the Central African Republic (CAR) strengthened their economic ties through major initiatives.

From June 17 to 19, 2025, the Organisation internationale de la Francophonie (OIF) organized the first Mission économique de la Francophonie (MEF) in West Africa in Cotonou, Benin. This event brought together approximately 100 companies and economic institutions from all French-speaking regions, with over 200 Beninese companies mobilized for exchanges and targeted business meetings. The strategic sectors highlighted were agro-industry, cultural and creative industries, and digital transformation.

On April 18, 2025, Central African President Faustin-Archange Touadéra launched the construction of the Gouga-Mbaïki-Bangui road, 221 kilometers long. This project is part of the first phase of the Pointe-Noire-Brazzaville-Bangui-Ndjamena multimodal road corridor, aiming to improve regional connectivity and stimulate economic exchanges. The total cost of the project is estimated at 282 million US dollars, financed by the African Development Bank Group.

Furthermore, on March 25, 2025, President Touadéra met with the Ugandan Minister of Public Works, General Edward Katumba Wamala, to launch a road corridor project linking Uganda, the CAR, and South Sudan. This project aims to strengthen bilateral cooperation and develop road infrastructure between these neighboring countries.

These initiatives illustrate the commitment of La Francophonie and the Central African Republic to promote regional economic development and strengthen intra-Francophone partnerships in 2025.
