Semesta School's Eid al-Adha: Cultivating Empathy and Social Awareness Through Integrated Character Education

Edited by: Olga Samsonova

Sekolah Semesta in Central Java transforms the Islamic holiday of Eid al-Adha into a social "laboratory" for its students. This approach goes beyond the traditional act of distributing meat. It integrates character education, fostering social awareness and empathy from a young age.

In 2025, the school slaughtered over 81 cows and 8 goats. The meat was processed into 4,200 packages, distributed throughout Central Java. This initiative, themed "Sharing to the Outskirts," strategically targeted areas with limited access to aid. This ensured that the benefits reached even remote communities.

The school's approach emphasizes emotional and social intelligence alongside academic excellence. Students actively participate, including saving through the "School Sacrifice Savings" program. This teaches them to plan and contribute to the act of sharing. The goal is to nurture not only intelligent students but also individuals with compassion, ready to contribute positively to their communities.
