Google is preparing to commercially roll out Google Beam, formerly Project Starline, a 3D video technology. This system aims to create the feeling of in-person communication for remote colleagues, friends, or family. The technology has evolved to market readiness, maintaining its core concept. Google Beam uses a large screen with multiple cameras to capture different angles and track head movement with high precision. AI and light-field displays add depth to the video feed, creating realistic 3D experiences without headsets or glasses. Participants appear full-size, with near-perfect head-tracking for a natural conversation. Google plans to introduce Beam units to early business customers, including Deloitte and Salesforce, later this year through a partnership with HP. It will integrate with platforms like Google Meet and Zoom. While remote work is decreasing, Beam could be valuable for senior management needing global meetings. HP will showcase Beam at InfoComm, with Google working with partners to distribute it globally.
