Rwanda will inaugurate its largest port, Rubavu, on December 6, 2024. Located on the shores of Lake Kivu in the Western Province, the port aims to boost trade with the neighboring Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
The facility spans 2 hectares and has been operating under a pilot phase for the past year. It has the capacity to handle 700,000 tonnes of cargo and accommodate at least 2.7 million passengers annually. Additionally, the port can simultaneously dock two cargo vessels with a deadweight tonnage of 500.
Plans are underway for three additional ports along Rwanda's Kivu shoreline, further enhancing the country's trade infrastructure.
