China is currently building a substantial military command center located approximately 30 kilometers southwest of Beijing, as reported by the Financial Times on January 30, 2025. The project, under scrutiny by U.S. intelligence agencies, is said to be at least ten times larger than the Pentagon.

According to assessments from various former and current U.S. officials, the facility will include fortified bunkers designed to protect the leadership of the People's Liberation Army (PLA) even in the event of a nuclear war. Construction began in mid-2024, indicating a significant investment in military infrastructure.

Experts analyzing satellite imagery have noted that the site shows all the characteristics of a secret military installation, including reinforced concrete and deep underground tunnels. This construction aligns with the ambitions of Chinese President Xi Jinping to enhance the country's military capabilities.

While the current PLA headquarters is relatively new, it was not designed as a secure command center. An ex-U.S. intelligence official pointed out that the main secure command center of the PLA, located in the Sishan mountains northeast of the new site, was established decades ago during the Cold War.
