OpenAI has introduced a new feature called Projects for ChatGPT, allowing users to create specific chat folders for related topics. This feature was announced during a live stream and is part of a 12-day shipping schedule.

Currently available to ChatGPT Plus, Pro, and Team users globally, Projects will also roll out to Edu and Enterprise users by January 2025. Free users will eventually gain access, though no specific date has been provided.

Projects functions as an organizational tool, enabling users to group chats by topic. For example, users can create a folder named 'Research Assignment' and instruct the chatbot to respond as an expert in that field, eliminating the need to repeat context for each query.

Additionally, Projects offers capabilities similar to Google’s NotebookLM, allowing users to add files that the chatbot will consider when generating responses. This feature is particularly useful for handling large documents or research papers.

The Projects feature will be accessible on the left margin of ChatGPT's web interface and desktop app, but is currently unavailable on mobile apps. Users can create customizable folders by tapping the '+' icon, adding titles, emojis, and changing folder colors. The interface also provides access to previous chats and integrates the ChatGPT Search and Canvas features.
