Angelina Jolie to Receive Desert Palm Achievement Award for 'Maria' at Palm Springs International Film Awards on January 3, 2024

Angelina Jolie, the star of the highly anticipated film Maria, will receive the prestigious Desert Palm Achievement Award for Best Actress at the Palm Springs International Film Awards. The ceremony is set for January 3, 2024, at the Palm Springs Convention Center, with the festival running from January 2 to 13.

In Maria, Jolie takes on the role of the legendary opera singer Maria Callas during her final days in Paris in the early 1960s. The film, which many believe could earn Jolie an Oscar nomination, showcases her extraordinary talent in portraying the complexities of Callas's life.

Festival president Nachhattar Singh Chandi praised Jolie's compelling transformation into the iconic figure, stating, “We are delighted to present Angelina Jolie with the Desert Palm Achievement Award for her fascinating portrayal of this revolutionary and tragic character.”

Maria will be released in select theaters on November 27 and will stream on Netflix starting December 11. The cast includes Pierfrancesco Favino, Alba Rohrwacher, and Kodi Smit-McPhee, among others.

Previous winners of the Desert Palm Achievement Award for Best Actress include Emma Stone and Cate Blanchett, highlighting the award's significance in recognizing outstanding performances.
