Doha, Qatar: The Media Majlis Museum at Northwestern University in Qatar has launched its new exhibition, 'Ai or Nay? Artificial vs. Intelligent.' The exhibition, which opens today and runs until May 15, 2025, showcases the evolving relationship between human creativity and machine learning, while exploring the opportunities and challenges AI presents in the media landscape.
Featuring over 20 works by regional and international artists across diverse mediums such as visual arts, installations, and mixed media, the exhibition includes immersive digital experiences, newly commissioned pieces, and loans from prestigious institutions like the Computer History Museum (California, USA) and the Barjeel Art Foundation (Sharjah, UAE).
Curated by Jack Thomas Taylor, the exhibition aims to unite artists at the forefront of AI, journalism, and communication, presenting a holistic view of these themes. Taylor noted that the exhibition creates an interactive space for visitors to engage with various topics and case studies.
Among the significant works is 'artificial targets,' a press jacket artwork that incorporates electronic devices, highlighting the dual role of technology in both protection and targeting journalists, particularly in conflict zones.
Alfredo Cramerotti, director of the Media Majlis Museum, emphasized the exhibition's interdisciplinary nature, which engages artists, technologists, social thinkers, media producers, and communication experts to unpack AI's societal impacts. He stated that it is crucial for the museum to address the awareness and balance regarding AI's future developments.
The four-month-long exhibition is structured around four themes: hindsight, insight, foresight, and oversight, inviting guests to explore how AI reshapes concepts of privacy, identity, and representation.
