Kerala has added another feather to its tourism cap as Kappad Beach in Kozhikode and Chal Beach in Kannur receive the coveted Blue Flag certification, a global accolade awarded by the Denmark-based Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE). This recognition sets these two beaches apart for their exceptional commitment to ecological preservation, cleanliness, and visitor safety.
Kappad Beach, a historical gem where Vasco da Gama first set foot in India, now stands as a symbol of Kerala's efforts toward sustainable tourism. Meanwhile, Chal Beach, known for its unspoiled charm and tranquil ambiance, is rapidly gaining recognition as a haven for nature lovers.
The Blue Flag honor reflects the state's dedication to maintaining international standards of environmental stewardship while offering travelers an unparalleled beach experience. With this achievement, Kerala continues to set a benchmark for eco-tourism, inviting visitors to enjoy its shores while respecting nature's delicate balance.
Tourism Minister Shri P A Mohamed Riyas noted that the Blue Flag status not only enhances the global appeal of these beaches but also solidifies Kerala's reputation as a leading sustainable tourism destination. He emphasized that this marks a pivotal move in enhancing tourism and attracting environmentally conscious travelers to the state.
The Blue Flag certification reflects Kerala's efforts towards responsible and accessible tourism, said Tourism Director Smt Sikha Surendran. The picturesque Kappad and Chal beaches have set new benchmarks in Responsible Tourism (RT) by adopting eco-friendly practices while providing a clean, safe, and visitor-friendly environment that aligns with international standards.
The Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE) grants the Blue Flag certification to beaches, marinas, and boating operators that fulfill 33 rigorous criteria, including sustainability measures and safety protocols.
