On November 12, 2024, Atlantic Copper, a leading metallurgical company based in Huelva, Spain, entered a long-term strategic agreement with Alter Enersun, a prominent player in the renewable energy sector. This partnership involves the construction of a 30 MWp photovoltaic plant, aimed at supplying green energy for self-consumption at Atlantic Copper's metallurgical complex.
The agreement involves an investment of 16 million euros and is set to last for 25 years, marking a significant step towards industrial self-consumption in Spain. The plant, to be located near Punta del Sebo on land owned by the Port Authority of Huelva, is expected to become operational in 2026, with an estimated annual production of 53 GWh.
Javier Targhetta, CEO of Atlantic Copper, stated that the agreement will enhance the company's resilience to energy market volatility and aims to increase the share of low-carbon electricity consumption from 66% to 82%. This initiative aligns with Atlantic Copper's broader decarbonisation and energy efficiency objectives.
José Luis Morlanes, CEO of Alter Enersun, expressed satisfaction in supporting the industry’s sustainability goals by providing clean and affordable energy. Alter Enersun has over 150 photovoltaic installations across Spain, Portugal, and Mexico, and specializes in the entire solar energy value chain.
