Global OTEC Unveils OTEC Power Module in Brazil

November 18, 2024, Brazil - Global OTEC has introduced its OTEC Power Module, a sustainable energy solution for offshore platforms, at the first Brazilian Workshop on Geothermal Energy Utilization and Storage, hosted by Petrobras in Rio de Janeiro.

The OTEC Power Module utilizes Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion (OTEC) technology to provide clean baseload electricity without the limitations of traditional subsea tiebacks, which typically extend only 35 km. This innovation aims to deliver scalable, carbon-free energy to remote offshore wells.

Key features include:

  • Projected 20-30% reduction in CAPEX for deepwater operations compared to conventional systems.

  • Continuous operation powered by an Organic Rankine Cycle, using warm surface seawater and cold deep water.

  • Each module can generate up to 500 kW of gross installed capacity.

  • Advanced safety and control systems for both local and remote operations.

Global OTEC's design emphasizes efficiency and environmental sustainability, potentially reducing CO2 and methane emissions. The company’s recent expansion into Houston, Texas, positions it to collaborate with major offshore operators, enhancing the economic viability of offshore oil and gas operations.
