Brookstreet Pictures, founded by Trevor Matthews, son of Welsh tech billionaire Sir Terry Matthews, is generating buzz for its co-produced film The Brutalist. This cinematic historical drama delves into the themes of ambition and identity through the journey of a Hungarian architect who emigrates to post-war America.

Since its release, The Brutalist has received critical acclaim, recently winning Best Film Drama, Best Male Actor for Adrien Brody, and Best Director for Brady Corbert at the 2025 Golden Globes. This success often signals potential Oscar nominations by the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences.

Featuring Felicity Jones and Guy Pearce, the film premiered at the Venice International Film Festival and was released in the U.S. in December and the UK this month. Following its Golden Globes triumph, Vanity Fair predicts multiple Oscar nominations, including Best Picture, Best Actor, and Best Director.

Trevor Matthews, who grew up in Canada, expressed his pride in the film's recognition, stating, “Winning three of the biggest awards is a very special achievement. It's been incredible to see Wales develop as a filming location, and I look forward to making more movies there.”
