Jeden svet Film Festival Celebrates 25 Years with New Changes and Powerful Films from October 18-27, 2024

The Jeden svet International Film Festival, Slovakia's largest and oldest documentary event, is set to celebrate its 25th anniversary from October 18 to 27, 2024. This year, the festival will run for an extended 11 days, featuring significant changes and an exciting lineup of films.

Andrea Najvirtová, director of the non-profit organization Človek v ohrození, emphasized the festival's role in promoting dialogue on pressing social issues. "We aim to build an inclusive, supportive society through awareness and discussion," she stated.

Notably, the festival will introduce the Elena Lacková Award for the first time, recognizing artistic projects that have fostered positive social change in Slovakia over the past two years.

The opening film, "I Will Not Hate," tells the poignant story of a Palestinian doctor who, despite personal tragedy, continues to deliver Israeli babies. The closing film, "Presidentka" by Marek Šulík, offers a unique glimpse into the life of Slovak President Zuzana Čaputová.

This year's special section, Focus, will spotlight "Queer Joy," aiming to challenge negative portrayals of the LGBTI+ community. The festival promises to be a vibrant platform for important conversations and cinematic experiences.
