Artists and spouses Vladimir Avramov and Martina Karaivanova have unveiled their latest joint painting exhibition titled 'Take Me There' at the Nesi Gallery in Burgas, Bulgaria. This marks their second collaborative showcase, where they merge their distinct artistic approaches into a single space.
Avramov describes their artistic relationship as one of contrasts, stating, 'While we work in the same field of visual arts, our styles and mentalities are quite different. Sometimes there is an ambivalence in our work.' He elaborates that Karaivanova's paintings are deeply metaphysical and abstract, while his own pieces are more recognizable and realistic, serving as bridges that connect her metaphysical energy to the contemporary viewer.
Initially apprehensive about exhibiting together due to their differing interpretations of visual art, the artists found harmony through their contrasting styles. They express a desire to transcend the noise of modern life, seeking a deeper connection to dreams and aspirations through their work.
The title 'Take Me There' reflects a longing for exploration and the pursuit of the unattainable, a sentiment echoed by both artists. 'In today’s world, where everything is accessible, we wanted to step out of our comfort zone and delve into the romantic,' Avramov notes.
Water and bridges feature prominently in their artwork, symbolizing connection and movement between cultures and epochs. 'The bridge is a universal symbol of unity,' Avramov explains, highlighting the complexities of relationships and artistic expression.
Despite being married and both being artists, this is only their second joint exhibition. Karaivanova emphasizes the importance of maintaining a degree of distance in their artistic endeavors, stating, 'I generally prefer that spouses in life do not necessarily need to be together in their art.'
The exhibition 'Take Me There' will be on display at the Nesi Gallery in Burgas until October 22.
