Itaipu's Biological Refuge Celebrates 40 Years of Conservation Efforts in the Atlantic Forest

18:13, 24 十一月

The Biological Refuge Bela Vista (RBBV) at Itaipu Binacional marks its 40th anniversary, serving as a vital conservation area for the endangered Atlantic Forest, one of the world's most threatened tropical forests. Spanning 1,780 hectares, this refuge plays a critical role in protecting diverse flora and fauna.

Visitors can enjoy free guided tours that include planting native tree seeds for reforestation initiatives. The refuge connects to the Três Fronteiras Forest, forming part of the Santa Maria Ecological Corridor, which links the Iguaçu National Park and other protected reserves.

During the tours, guests can observe various species, including capybaras, monkeys, and harpy eagles, while learning about the ecological importance of the region. The guided experience, lasting about two and a half hours, emphasizes environmental awareness and the necessity of preserving natural habitats.

Local residents have expressed their appreciation for the initiative, recognizing its economic benefits for the community. The program fosters a sense of responsibility towards nature, encouraging visitors to reflect on their impact on the environment and to promote preservation efforts.

As the refuge continues its mission, it remains a beacon of hope for conservationists and a vital resource for educating future generations about the importance of biodiversity.
