Leaders from Mexico, Canada, and the European Union have criticized the move as reckless and counterproductive, threatening retaliatory measures. The tariffs, set to take effect on March 12, will impact imports from countries including Canada, Brazil, Mexico, and South Korea. These nations previously benefited from largely duty-free access to the US market. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau labeled the tariffs "unacceptable," emphasizing the integrated nature of the US and Canadian economies. He warned of a firm response if necessary. Similarly, the European Commission President, Ursula von der Leyen, expressed deep regret and pledged EU action to safeguard its economic interests.
