NASA will hold a media briefing on January 29 at 11 a.m. EST to discuss scientific findings from the OSIRIS-REx mission, which successfully returned a sample from asteroid Bennu to Earth in September 2023.
The briefing will feature key figures including Nicky Fox, associate administrator of the Science Mission Directorate at NASA Headquarters; Danny Glavin, senior scientist for sample return at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center; Jason Dworkin, project scientist for OSIRIS-REx; Tim McCoy, curator of meteorites at the Smithsonian Natural History Museum; and Sara Russell, cosmic mineralogist at the Natural History Museum in London.
Launched on September 8, 2016, OSIRIS-REx marked the first U.S. mission to collect samples from an asteroid. The spacecraft reached Bennu, gathered rocks and dust from its surface in 2020, and successfully delivered the samples to Earth on September 24, 2023.
