The agreement, signed by Moldova's Minister of Energy, Victor Parlicov, and Turkish counterpart Alparslan Bayraktar, focuses on knowledge exchange, joint project development, investment attraction, and energy security enhancement.
Parlicov emphasized discussions on natural gas supply, renewable energy, energy efficiency, electricity trading, and smart grid technologies. He stated, '75% of the energy we consume is imported,' highlighting the need for reliable energy sources and interconnections.
He noted the importance of a functional energy market to ensure energy security free from political influences. Parlicov cited potential solar energy utilization from Eastern regions to Western needs via energy interconnections as a significant opportunity.
Key projects mentioned include interconnections between Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, and Romania, which are expected to benefit Moldova. Discussions at the forum also highlighted the necessity of investing in renewable sources and diversifying natural gas supply routes.
The Istanbul Energy Forum aimed to promote regional and international energy cooperation, gathering energy ministers and representatives from international organizations, NGOs, academia, and private sector leaders.
