Indonesia Launches First 1 GW Solar Panel Factory

November 1, 2024, Indonesia - PLN Indonesia Power (PLN IP) has inaugurated the first and largest integrated solar panel factory in Kendal, Central Java, with a production capacity of 1 Gigawatt Peak (GWp). This facility utilizes Tunnel Oxide Passivated Contact (TOPCon) technology, achieving a solar panel efficiency of 23.2%, significantly higher than the national average of 20%.

This development aligns with Indonesia's commitment to reach Net Zero Emission (NZE) by 2060. The rapid construction of the factory, completed in just 10 months, has been praised by officials, emphasizing its contribution to local content regulations and renewable energy goals.

According to Hartanto Wibowo, Corporate Planning and Business Development Director at PT PLN, this milestone reflects PLN's support for Indonesia's energy independence and transition towards sustainable energy.

The factory, a collaboration between PLN Indonesia Power Renewables, Trina Solar Co. Ltd, and PT Dian Swastatika Sentosa, aims to meet the increasing demand for renewable energy in the country.
