Google Enhances Android Theft Protection Features

Google has begun rolling out advanced Theft Protection features for Android 10+ devices, significantly enhancing user security against phone theft.

Users can find the new settings by searching for 'Theft protection' in the Settings app or navigating to Google Services > All services > Personal & device safety.

The update includes three major features:

  • Theft detection lock: Utilizes sensors, Wi-Fi, and smart device connections to lock the phone automatically if unauthorized access is detected.

  • Offline device lock: Protects the device even when offline, locking it automatically if the internet connection is disabled.

  • Remote lock: Allows users to remotely lock their device via android.com/lock, providing a quicker alternative to the Find My Device feature.

Initially tested in Brazil, these features are now being rolled out to Android users globally, including Pixel and Samsung devices. Users enrolled in the Google Play services beta can access all three features, with a full release anticipated soon.

This update underscores Google's commitment to safeguarding user data and preventing unauthorized access, particularly in high-risk situations.
