Rich Peppiatt's film Kneecap has made waves this awards season, earning six nominations from the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTAs), making it the most nominated debut feature in the ceremony's history. Saoirse Ronan also received a nomination for Best Actress for her role in The Outrun, directed by Nora Fingscheidt.

Kneecap, a celebration of the Belfast rap trio, has been a surprise contender, securing nominations in categories including Best Film Not in the English Language and Outstanding British Film. The film's directors expressed their delight, humorously noting the irony of Ireland winning British awards.

Both films premiered to critical acclaim at the Sundance Film Festival, with Kneecap expected to follow in the footsteps of Colm Bairéad's An Cailín Ciúin, which received two BAFTA nominations two years ago. The film's success could pave the way for an Oscar nomination for Best International Film, with the announcement set for January 23rd.

Meanwhile, Edward Berger's Conclave leads with 12 nominations, followed by Jacques Audiard's Emilia Pérez with 11. The BAFTAs continue to celebrate diverse storytelling and international talent.
