Ford to Cut 4,000 Jobs in Europe Amid Electric Vehicle Challenges

Ford plans to reduce its workforce in Europe by 4,000 positions by the end of 2027, primarily in Germany and the UK, due to significant losses in passenger car production and weaker-than-expected demand for electric vehicles.

Approximately 14% of Ford's European workforce will be affected, with 3,000 job cuts in Germany and 800 in the UK. The company is currently in discussions with unions regarding these layoffs.

Additionally, Ford will implement reduced working hours at its Cologne plant, which produces the Capri and Explorer electric vehicles. European Vice President Dave Johnston emphasized the need for decisive action to ensure Ford's future competitiveness in the region.

The automotive industry is undergoing major disruptions as it transitions to electric mobility, compounded by challenges in meeting CO2 emissions regulations in Europe.
