Mexico - The Popocatépetl volcano in Mexico exhibited increased activity on February 9, 2025, according to the National Center for Disaster Prevention (Cenapred). The volcano, currently classified as Yellow Phase 2 on the Volcanic Alert Semaphore, registered 13 low-intensity exhalations accompanied by steam and volcanic gases, along with 37 minutes of high-frequency, low-amplitude tremor.
The tremor, a continuous and rhythmic seismic signal, is often associated with the movement of magma or other magmatic fluids within the volcanic conduit. The increased activity has prompted authorities to warn residents of nearby areas about potential ashfall.
