Mexico City's annual Art Week, held in February 2025, has once again solidified the city's position as a global art capital. The week-long event features a plethora of art fairs, exhibitions, and special events, showcasing the vibrant and diverse art scene of Mexico and Latin America.
Zona Maco, the largest art fair in Latin America, attracted over 80,000 visitors last year and this year features 200 galleries from 29 countries across four continents. The fair's diverse sections, including Sur, Modern, Ejes, and Diseño, highlight a range of artistic expressions, from site-specific works challenging Eurocentric views to emerging artists exploring modern interpretations of freedom.
Material Art Fair, held at Expo Reforma, features over 72 exhibitors from 20 countries, with a strong focus on Latin American art. The fair's Program of Projects offers free space and mentorship to emerging artists, fostering the growth of a vibrant art ecosystem.
Salón Acme, known for its scrappy and experimental approach, takes place in Proyecto Público Prim, a revitalized 19th-century mansion. The fair's 12th edition features performances, food, and art workshops for children, showcasing nearly 80 artists across six sections.
Beyond the art fairs, Mexico City's museums are also hosting significant exhibitions. Museo Jumex presents "Gabriel Orozco: Politécnico Nacional," the internationally celebrated artist's first museum exhibition in his native country in nearly 20 years. Museo Anahuacalli, the year-round tourist attraction built by Diego Rivera, debuts a double presentation of artworks by Mexican artist Paloma Contreras Lomas and Argentine artist Carolina Fusilier.
Art Week also features private collection openings, including the impressive collection of Vicky and Marcos Micha Levy, which spans five decades and includes works by seminal Mexican and European artists. The collection is the subject of a new bilingual book, which will be celebrated at Tamayo Museum.
