New York Times Files FOIA Lawsuits Against Agencies Over Trump-Era Policies

Edited by: Татьяна Гуринович

The New York Times initiated several Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) lawsuits last month. These lawsuits target U.S. government agencies. The lawsuits seek information on policies enacted by the Trump administration. The lawsuits were filed against the U.S. Department of Justice, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, and the Office of Personnel Management. The New York Times' in-house legal department handled the filings. A lawyer for The Times suggested a possible reason for the litigation. According to the lawyer, a "reduction in forces" among FOIA officers may be a contributing factor.
