Paris, France - Discussions between the European Union and the United States on trade continue amidst ongoing tariff disputes.

Following a meeting in Paris, Vice-President of the European Commission Maros Sefcovic stated that he had a "productive and constructive" discussion with U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer.

Sefcovic indicated that they are making rapid progress in the right direction, and they will remain in close contact to maintain momentum in the tariff negotiations.

This follows previous announcements by U.S. President Donald Trump, who proposed a 50% tariff on EU goods starting June 1st, 2025. This decision was later postponed to July 9th, 2025.

The U.S. has also increased tariffs on steel and aluminum imports to 50%, which took effect recently, adding further strain to the trade relationship.
