Us supreme court Allows Trump Administration to End Temporary Protected Status for 532,000 Immigrants

The US Supreme Court has allowed the Trump administration to revoke the temporary legal status of 532,000 immigrants from Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua, and Venezuela. This decision puts many at risk of deportation. The ruling is temporary while the case proceeds in lower courts.

The Supreme Court overturned a previous ruling by a Boston judge that had prevented the White House from ending the program. This program, created in 2022, allowed immigrants to live and work legally in the US for humanitarian reasons. Applicants had to pass security checks and have a US citizen sponsor.

The Trump administration argued that halting the program disrupts immigration policies designed to discourage illegal entry. Justices Jackson and Sotomayor dissented, arguing the decision disregards the devastating consequences for nearly half a million non-citizens. This is another case where the Trump administration urgently appealed to the Supreme Court to overturn judicial decisions blocking immigration policies.
