Donald Trump has delayed the imposition of tariffs on imports from the European Union. This decision came after a phone call with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen. The tariffs were initially scheduled to take effect within a week.

Trump stated he would postpone the 50% tariffs on EU goods, which were set to begin on June 1st. The new deadline for these tariffs is now July 9th. Trump described his conversation with von der Leyen as "very pleasant."

According to Trump, von der Leyen promised that necessary discussions would commence promptly. Von der Leyen also reported a positive phone call with Trump. She noted that the EU and the US share one of the most important trade relationships globally and that Europe is ready to advance discussions swiftly to reach an agreement by July 9th.
