Naver, Nvidia, and Partners to Build AI Data Center in Morocco

Edited by: Veronika Radoslavskaya

Morocco will be home to a new, large-scale AI data center. The project is a collaboration between South Korean tech giant Naver, Nvidia, Nexus Core Systems, and Lloyds Capital.

The data center will be powered by renewable energy and serve as a sovereign AI computing hub for the Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) region. The strategic location of Morocco, close to Europe and with direct fiber optic cable connections, was a key factor in the decision.

The first phase of the project is scheduled to begin in the fourth quarter of this year. This includes deploying a 40-megawatt AI supercomputing infrastructure equipped with Nvidia's latest Blackwell GPUs. The center will eventually expand to a capacity of 500 megawatts.

The consortium has signed a strategic power purchase agreement with TAQA to ensure a stable supply of renewable energy. Naver Cloud, Nexus Core Systems, and Lloyds Capital will oversee the platform's operation. They plan to offer a fully integrated suite of AI services and applications.

"This latest partnership marks a turning point for Naver, as we expand our cloud and AI capabilities beyond Japan, Southeast Asia, and the Middle East, to reach the European market," said Chae Sun-joo, head of strategic business division at Naver.
