Beyonce commenced the European leg of her "Cowboy Carter" tour in London, presenting a tribute to Black contributions within country music. The performance, spanning nearly three hours, showcased a fusion of musical styles and honored the legacy of Black performers and venues known as the Chitlin' Circuit.
The opening night featured "Ameriican Requiem," a song exploring themes of overcoming racism in country music. This was followed by a rendition of "Blackbiird," a Beatles song, featuring emerging Black women in country music. Beyonce, who recently won best country album at the 2025 Grammy awards, has spoken about her experiences in the country genre.
The stage production included a mechanical bull and a car suspended in the air, with Beyonce performing a medley of songs. The tour has spurred a significant increase in sales of Beyonce-related merchandise, particularly cowboy hats. The tour will continue in Paris, with a performance scheduled on Juneteenth.
