Miley Cyrus has publicly commented on her father, Billy Ray Cyrus's, relationship with actress Liz Hurley, following a period of estrangement within the family.
The singer, 32, stated that she is approaching the situation with maturity. This comes after a fallout with her father, 63, following his divorce from her mother, Tish Purcell, 58, in 2023 after 30 years of marriage.
Miley now expresses her desire for her father and Liz, 59, to find happiness, despite the initial difficulty in processing her parents' separation. "I'm being an adult about it," Miley said.
She further explained, "At first it's hard, because the little kid in you reacts before the adult in you can go, 'Yes, that's your dad, but that's just another person that deserves to be in his bliss and to be happy'. My child self has caught up."
Miley attributed her initial reaction to her close bond with her mother, who was Billy Ray's second wife. She acknowledged taking on some of her mother's pain, explaining, "I think I took on some of my mom's hurt as my own because it hurt her more than it hurt me as an adult, and so I owned a lot of her pain."
Confirming their reconciliation, Miley stated, "There's been enough bridges now of time to get us all reconnected. I think timing is everything." Billy Ray and Liz Hurley met on the set of their 2022 film, Christmas in Paradise.
They made their relationship public in April. Reports indicate that Billy Ray sought support from Liz after his brief marriage to Firerose ended last year.
An insider noted their surprising compatibility, stating, "Everyone said they are world's apart but they are very similar -- they have a lot in common and have the same interests and Billy is also very much her type." Liz Hurley has also indicated plans to introduce Billy Ray to her family.
