Leighton Meester Prioritizes Family Over Career, Turns Down Roles to Be With Kids

Leighton Meester, known for her role in Gossip Girl, is prioritizing her family life over career opportunities. The actress, 39, revealed in a recent interview with Bustle that she has declined several roles to spend more time with her two children. Meester shares a 9-year-old daughter, Arlo, and a 4-year-old son with her husband, Adam Brody, 45.

"There's been a lot of stuff that I haven't done because I want to be with them," Meester stated. She emphasized her reluctance to be away from her children. While she would consider the "very right thing," she clarified that she wouldn't leave her family for an extended period like a year.

Meester and Brody have established a system that allows her to carefully consider job offers. This system ensures a balance between her career and family life. In February, Meester mentioned in a Vogue video that her children often visit her on location.

She also noted that her kids are accustomed to their parents' work and enjoy quality time with them off-set. Brody echoed this sentiment during an appearance on Today with Hoda and Jenna in September. He described their parenting style as open and honest, aiming for a balance between freedom and safety for their children.
