Elon Musk was seen with a noticeable black eye while standing next to President Donald Trump in the Oval Office on Friday, May 30, 2025. The bruise was visible beneath a "DOGE" hat he was wearing.
When questioned about the injury, the Tesla CEO explained, "I was joking around with Little X, and I said, 'Come on, punch me in the face.'"
"And he actually did it. Turns out, getting punched in the face by a five-year-old..." Musk continued, before Trump interjected. "If you know X, X is capable of that," Trump added, claiming he hadn't noticed the black eye.
X Æ A-Xii, Musk's eldest child with singer Grimes (Claire Boucher), has been frequently seen accompanying his father since Trump's return to the presidency. "Little X," as Musk calls his son, has been photographed in the Oval Office and on Capitol Hill. Musk has also been seen escorting his son onto the presidential helicopter, Marine One.
Musk stood by Trump as the President praised his work with the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). Friday marked Musk's last day as a special government employee, and Trump awarded him a golden key as a token of appreciation.
Musk announced his resignation on Wednesday, May 28, via a post on his social media platform, X. He thanked Trump for the opportunity to help run DOGE. "As my time as Special Government Employee comes to an end, I want to thank President @realDonaldTrump for the opportunity to reduce wasteful spending," Musk wrote. "The @DOGE mission will only grow stronger over time and become part of the lifestyle across government."
The South African-born tech mogul was appointed as a special government employee, a status that allowed him to work at federal agencies for up to 130 days a year. Since Trump's inauguration on January 20, that limit was expected to be reached by the end of May.
