Northern Vietnam is grappling with severe flooding and landslides following torrential rainfall. Lai Chau province has been particularly hard hit, with rescue operations underway to assist those affected by rising floodwaters.
On June 7-8, heavy rains caused significant damage to infrastructure and agriculture, especially in the Tam Duong district. In Ban Giang commune, eight people were rescued from a flooded mountain shack by provincial police and local forces. Authorities have also evacuated numerous households to safer locations.
Neighboring Lao Cai province experienced flash flooding on June 9, damaging crops and inundating streets. Landslides have disrupted transportation on National Highway 4D, connecting Lai Chau and Lao Cai. The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting predicts continued heavy rainfall in the region over the next three days, with flash flooding and landslides expected.
