Canadian Wildfire Smoke Obscures Skies Over Europe, Surpassing Air Pollution Levels in Major Cities

Edited by: Tetiana Martynovska 17

A peculiar weather phenomenon is currently affecting Germany and Austria, causing a milky haze in the sky. Contrary to initial assumptions, the cause is not Saharan dust.

The German Weather Service has confirmed that the hazy skies are due to smoke from wildfires in Canada. This smoke has reached Europe in massive plumes, spanning hundreds of kilometers.

The situation is particularly severe in Munich, where air pollution levels briefly surpassed those of Delhi, India. Meteorologists predict the smoke will linger, especially in the Alps, as long as the Canadian wildfires persist and atmospheric conditions favor its transport across the Atlantic.
