Western Odisha, India, is experiencing a severe heatwave. Jharsuguda recorded the state's highest temperature at 45.4 degrees Celsius.
Sixteen locations across the state, primarily in the western region, registered temperatures at or above 40 degrees Celsius. The government has declared summer vacations for schools in response to the extreme heat.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts continued severe heatwave conditions until April 26. An Orange Alert has been issued for Jharsuguda, with heatwave warnings for several other districts.
