The province of Santa Fe, Argentina, has approved the regulation of Law No. 13,932, a crucial measure for the preservation, conservation, and responsible use of its wetlands.

This law, which has been in the works for five years, establishes a comprehensive environmental monitoring plan. It will continuously assess the quality of water, soil, flora, and fauna, incorporating chemical and biological parameters.

The regulation also includes the expansion of the Protected Natural Areas System, adding over 1,100 hectares to the network. It also mandates environmental impact studies for projects that could affect the environment.

Santa Fe becomes the second province in Argentina to have specific legislation regulating its ecosystems. The law integrates wetlands into provincial strategies for climate change adaptation and mitigation.

The provincial authority will coordinate with municipalities to define criteria for ecological sustainability, considering the type, extent, and condition of the wetlands.

The regulation also promotes environmental education, with specific content on wetlands available for educational programs.
