Peregrine Falcons have successfully nested and bred at Bolton Town Hall, marking a significant event for these birds of prey. This news highlights the resilience and adaptability of these magnificent creatures within an urban environment.
The female falcon, approximately one year old, arrived from Worcester Cathedral last year. The senior male falcon is around 14 years old. Together, they have become parents to two chicks.
According to the Manchester Raptor Group, the new chicks are nearly ready to fly. The parents bear colored rings, part of a national study by the British Trust for Ornithology, but access to the nest site is currently restricted due to maintenance work.
Bolton Town Hall has been a nesting site for peregrine falcons for many years. The pair first nested in Victoria Square in 2008 and have bred every year since, with the exception of 2011 and 2013.
