Taiwanese crypto exchange bitopro suffers $11.5 million exploit in may 2025

Edited by: Yuliya Shumai

On May 8, 2025, Taiwanese cryptocurrency exchange BitoPro experienced a significant security breach, resulting in losses exceeding $11.5 million. Blockchain expert ZachXBT reported that unauthorized access was gained to BitoPro's hot wallets across multiple blockchains, including Ethereum, TRON, Solana, and Polygon.

The attackers stole a variety of digital assets, which were then sold on decentralized exchanges. Efforts were made to conceal the origin of the funds by laundering them through privacy protocols, complicating the recovery process.

BitoPro is actively investigating the incident and working with law enforcement to track down the perpetrators and recover the stolen funds. The exchange has also implemented enhanced security measures to prevent future attacks.
