Thailand's Tourism Future: Sustainability and Innovation

Edited by: Irina Davgaleva

Thailand is charting a course for the future of tourism with the 22nd edition of Thailand Travel Mart Plus (TTM+) in Chiang Mai. This year's event, held from June 4-6, focuses on sustainability, cultural heritage, and digital innovation. It's a significant step in aligning with the "Amazing Thailand Grand Tourism & Sports Year 2025" initiative.

TTM+ 2025 emphasizes sustainability, aiming to make Thailand a leader in green tourism. The event is carbon-neutral, going beyond offsetting emissions by actively reducing its environmental footprint. Renewable energy sources are used, and efforts are made to reduce waste, increase recycling, and repurpose materials.

The event also celebrates Thailand's rich cultural heritage. The "Wisdom and Wellness Experience" showcases Lanna heritage through spa therapies, herbal scrubs, and workshops. The "TTM Talk" series explores Thai soft power through Flavours, Fulfilment, and Fabrics, highlighting culinary excellence, wellness, and textiles.

Digital transformation is another key focus, with a Travel Tech zone featuring AI-powered platforms. These innovations, including Smart Business AI by TAT and the TAGTHAi travel app, aim to streamline operations and enhance the travel experience. This integration of technology boosts Thailand's competitiveness in the global tourism market.

TTM+ 2025 has attracted 406 international buyers, including many first-timers, from key global and emerging markets. The event is expected to generate over 13,000 business appointments and contribute over 4.29 billion Baht in tourism revenue. It fosters long-term partnerships and drives sustainable tourism growth across Thailand.

Mr. Sorawong Thienthong, Thailand's Minister of Tourism and Sports, highlighted the event's role in reshaping the tourism supply chain. Ms. Thapanee Kiatphaibool, the TAT Governor, emphasized how TTM+ empowers Thai SMEs. TTM+ 2025 sets a new benchmark for international tourism events, paving the way for a more connected, responsible, and resilient tourism future for Thailand.
