France and Canada Reinforce Support for Ukraine in Upcoming Peace Conference

On October 30-31, 2024, a ministerial conference will be held in Montreal to address the human dimension of Ukraine's ten-point peace formula, as reaffirmed by French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot and Canadian Foreign Minister Mélanie Joly.

The conference aims to create a roadmap with concrete actions to facilitate the return of Ukrainian children affected by the ongoing conflict. Both ministers condemned Russia's illegal invasion of Ukraine and emphasized their commitment to supporting Ukraine in its defense against Russian aggression.

They called on the international community to remember the plight of Ukrainian children suffering due to the war, highlighting the need for justice for war crimes and human rights violations committed in Ukraine. The ministers expressed their support for the International Criminal Court's mandates and pledged continued cooperation to ensure accountability for those responsible for these crimes.

Additionally, France and Canada will enhance their financial support for various civil society actors and United Nations programs aimed at protecting and supporting Ukrainian children, ensuring their access to essential services such as health and education.

This meeting is expected to strengthen international efforts to address the humanitarian crisis in Ukraine and promote the safe return of displaced children.
