U.S. President Donald Trump has intervened in the escalating border conflict between Thailand and Cambodia, urging both nations to engage in immediate ceasefire talks. The conflict, which has intensified over the past three days, has resulted in significant casualties and displacement of civilians.

President Trump communicated separately with Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet and Thailand's Acting Prime Minister Phumtham Wechayachai, emphasizing the necessity for an immediate cessation of hostilities. He conveyed that both leaders are seeking peace and have agreed to meet promptly to negotiate a ceasefire.

In his discussions, President Trump highlighted the urgency of resolving the conflict, noting that continued hostilities would impede potential trade agreements between the United States and both countries. He stated, "We happen to be, by coincidence, currently dealing on Trade with both Countries, but do not want to make any Deal, with either Country, if they are fighting — And I have told them so!"

The conflict has its roots in longstanding territorial disputes, particularly concerning the Preah Vihear Temple, awarded to Cambodia by the International Court of Justice in 1962. Tensions have been exacerbated by recent incidents, including the death of a Cambodian soldier in May, leading to the current escalation.

International organizations, including the United Nations and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), have called for restraint and a peaceful resolution to the conflict. Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, in his capacity as ASEAN Chair, has also been actively involved in promoting a ceasefire between the two nations.

As diplomatic efforts continue, the international community remains hopeful that dialogue will lead to a peaceful resolution, ensuring stability in the region and the well-being of the affected populations.
