Mount Dukono in North Maluku, Indonesia, erupted on Sunday, July 27, 2025, at 5:45 a.m. local time, releasing a volcanic ash column up to 3,000 meters above its summit. The eruption produced a thick white-to-gray ash plume drifting toward the southwest and northwest. The volcano, standing at 1,087 meters above sea level, is currently at Level II (Alert) status.
Authorities have advised residents and visitors to avoid activities within a 4-kilometer radius of the Malupang Warirang Crater. They also recommend wearing masks or face coverings to protect against respiratory hazards from volcanic ash. This eruption follows a series of similar events in July, with ash columns reaching 1,200 meters on July 21 and 1,100 meters on July 4. Mount Dukono has been continuously erupting since 1933, making it one of Indonesia's most active volcanoes.
