Amazon Invests Additional $4 Billion in AI Startup Anthropic

Amazon.com Inc. is investing an additional $4 billion in artificial intelligence startup Anthropic, increasing its total investment to $8 billion. This move positions Amazon as a key player in the AI sector and strengthens its partnership with Anthropic, a notable rival to OpenAI.

The latest funding follows an initial $4 billion investment completed earlier this year, which included provisions for Anthropic to utilize Amazon Web Services (AWS) data centers and AI chips. Anthropic also maintains strong ties with Google.

According to Anthropic, this investment establishes AWS as its primary cloud and training partner, enabling the startup to develop advanced AI models using Amazon's technology. Founded in 2021 by former OpenAI employees, Anthropic has become known for its Claude chatbot family, which is recognized for its text generation capabilities.
